19 May 2011 Explication of Theodore Roethkes Root Cellar A popular theme of a variety of art and media, touching and death are often focused on individually. In the numbers Root Cellar, Theodore Roethke creates a vivid depiction of look fighting for survival. Roethke shows the cellar as a wet place, track the reader of the poem to envision a damp environment in the dark. He goes on to use the imagery of bulbs skint out of boxes (2) and cracks to allude that this place is not in the scoop condition it has constantly been in, and is headed in the opposite direction.

Continuing with the unsettling imagery, Roethke describes shoots that are dangled and drooped/lolling ob eyeshotly from mildewed crates (3 4). done these lines he first creates the contrast of life against a scene of depravity.
